How little classrooms have changed

Recently I began reading "From the Campfire to the Holodeck" by David Thornburg primarily due to recommendations from some good friends in the Ed Tech community Roland Aichele and Tom Covington. In fact, Tom even loaned me his copy of the book (yes, from time to time I actually do read printed material!) 

Now, to be honest I have just started but there was one image discussed by the author which already had an impact on me.  This image is a 14th century German illustration from Laurentius de Voltolina depicting a teacher delivering a lecture. 
David Thornburg uses this to show how little both the classroom itself, and the dynamics between teacher and student have changed very little over time.

As I looked at this image in more detail I thought

​"wow, so many of these students look JUST like many of the kids I had in my classes."

So, I thought I would try to identify some these classic student stereotypes.
