What's In A Name?

I am about to finish my first year out of the classroom in this role of a TOSA. I have some reflections to do for sure this summer. I am coming back to return next year and as I am thinking about the job, I have done I'm also reflecting on my title.  It's still a job I have to describe each time I talk to my parents...

"You're a what? What's a TOSA?"

BTW.... did you know a TOSA is a breed of a dog too?

In this year I have met other people who have similar type of jobs. They introduce themselves as TOSAs, TOAs, Coordinators, Instructional Coaches, or my favorite is Brian Briggs' "Director of Innovation"! Check that out... Innovation CAN NOT happen unless he says so!

This all got me thinking... what's in a name? I mean it can mean a lot. Just look at Dwight Schrute's card from the office. The two words "to the" can change a lot about who you are

So, what's on my business card?

Well... that card itself is really just another hat we all wear.

For me:

I'm a Consultant for Teacher Created Materials
I'm a TOSA for Rocklin Unified School District
and what I really identify with more than anything else is an "Educator"

Check out this interesting article all about what is your job title.

And now for you... what's your title?
