I feel like I may be late to the party with not knowing about Alt Codes.
For those of you left in the cold like me here is what Wikipedia says about Alt Codes:
"many characters not directly associated with a key can be entered using the Alt Numpad input method or Alt code: pressing and holding the Alt key while typing the number identifying the character with the keyboard's numeric keypad"

My epiphany came from a Spanish teacher in my disrict who asked:
Her request make me look around and realize just how easy it is to write so many of these non traditional symbols. Check it out!.... I'm adding these just by typing in some of these crazy codes

In order to use these, most likely you will need a keyboard which has a number pad. If not you may neet to use the ALT and Fn key.
Pass this on to foreign language teachers and have them print them out to leave near their computer, but I bet many of them already know aobut these!
