Both as a TOSA in my district in Rocklin and when I talk to teachers throughout the country, one of the most common questions regarding technology today which I hear is “Chromebooks are great… but what can my kids CREATE with them?”
These devices are fantastic for schools and kids. They are easy to use and CHEAP. But what they do lack is the creative suite of tools that are so plentiful on tablets.
One possible solution is the possibility of running Android on a Chromebook, but we’ll leave this for another conversation for another day.
For now, let’s try to crowd source ideas and inspiration about ways teachers are having their students create with these devices. The goal is to have a place where teachers can go to find ideas and lessons which focus on students making and creating using Chromebooks curated by teachers from all over the world.
Lets leave this relatively open in regards to what “Make and Create” means. For some it may mean graphic design using an online editor, for others it could be coding, and others it may be a Choose Your Own Adventure in Google Slides. All we are a looking for are ideas and “out of the box” type of lessons which focus on getting students making and creating.
This is a work in progress so be patient. I will kick off this list with a few of my favorite lessons I have seen. Also try to pass this onto your fellow teachers and share using the hashtag #createwithchromebooks
